Gerald Corey

former principal bassoon (now retired)

Gerald Corey, the principal bassoon of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, is often featured as a soloist and a chamber musician in Ottawa. Mr. Corey founded and edited the newsletter, To The World's Bassoonists. Interest in this publication encouraged the foundation of the International Double Reed Society. Mr. Corey is a Past President and former editor of Bassoon Publications for the I.D.R.S. The founder of Espace Musique Concert Society - Ottawa's only long-term new music organization dedicated to bringing more accessible and understandable new Canadian and world compositions to Ottawa music-lovers, Gerald is now music director of planning concerts for Espace Musique, seeing the society grow exponentially this year with Radio Canada broadcasts and excellent reaction from the public to recent concerts. In addition to his teaching at Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal and the Department of Music of the University of Ottawa, Gerald Corey enjoys teaching private students of bassoon and recorder. He has recently renewed his membership in CAMMAC to help amateur musicians perform more beautifully by occasionally performing with them and with scheduled coaching appearances.
