Jack Everly
Principal Pops Conductor, National Arts Centre Orchestra
Pops Conductor Jack Everly is a leader of the beloved genre throughout North America.
Jack Everly was named to the new position of Principal Pops Conductor of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in May 2004. He was already well known to National Arts Centre Orchestra audiences for pops concerts such as Pops Goes British (2004), A Gershwin Celebration and Those Glorious Hollywood Musicals (2003), Celtic Celebration and Broadway Spectacular (2002), and Gotta Dance! (2000). To these he has added such shows as Broadway Divas, a Boston Pops Tribute featuring Pinchas Zukerman, the 2005 Black & White Opera Soiree fundraiser, the hilarious The 1950s: The Golden Age of Black and White and this season’s The Beat Goes On – Music of the Baby Boomers.
He is also the Principal Pops Conductor with the Baltimore and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestras as well as Music Director for the Symphonic Pops Consortium. In addition to his performances with the above orchestras, he appears as Guest Conductor with many orchestras including the Pittsburgh, Nashville, National, Toronto, and Dallas Symphony Orchestras.
Maestro Everly is also the Music Director of A Yuletide Celebration. The theatrical symphonic holiday production, presented annually by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, is seen by over 40,000 concertgoers. Mr. Everly led the ISO for a recording, A Yuletide Celebration, Volume One, that included three of his own arrangements. The recording, released in November 2004, has proven to be a fabulous success, breaking sales records.
Originally appointed by Artistic Director Mikhail Baryshnikov, Mr. Everly conducted thousands of performances and dozens of world premieres for American Ballet Theatre, where he served as Music Director. Mr. Everly was not only at the helm for their annual season at Lincoln Center’s Metropolitan Opera House, but also for over 50 international tours with the famed company. In addition to his ABT tenure, he has teamed with Marvin Hamlisch in shows that Mr. Hamlisch composed including The Goodbye Girl, They're Playing Our Song, and A Chorus Line. He conducted Carol Channing hundreds of times in Hello, Dolly! in two separate Broadway productions.
In television and film, Jack Everly has appeared on In Performance at the White House and conducted the songs for Disney’s animated classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame. He led the orchestra for the national PBS telecast of the American Ballet Theatre’s Romeo and Juliet, starring Natalia Makarova. He has been music director on numerous Broadway cast recordings, and conducted the critically praised, Everything’s Coming Up Roses: The Complete Overtures of Broadway’s Jule Styne. A CD released in July 2005, In The Presence, features tenor Daniel Rodriguez with the Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of Prague conducted by Mr. Everly.
In 1998, Jack Everly was instrumental in creating the Symphonic Pops Consortium lending his talent as Music Director. The Consortium, based in Indianapolis and made up of major U.S. Orchestras, produces a new theatrical pops program each season that is then available for other orchestras providing a superior quality artistic program for all.
When not on the podium or arranging, Maestro Everly indulges in his love for films, Häagen-Dazs, and a pooch named Max.
