Susan Rupp, born in Lindsay, Ontario, and raised in Calgary, comes from a family of musicians. She studied piano with her mother and Dr. Gladys Egbert and studied violin with Mary Shortt, Dr. Lise B. Elson, Gwen Thompson and Mauricio Fuks. Summer studies included the Meadowmount School of Music, the National Youth Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival and School, chamber music with the Orford String Quartet, and masterclasses in Europe. Post-secondary education includes a B.Mus. from the University of Calgary, a Performance Certificate from the Vancouver Academy of Music, a M.Mus. from McGill University, and a B.Ed., summa cum laude, from the University of Ottawa.

Prior to joining the National Arts Centre Orchestra in 1984, Susan was a member of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and also played with the Edmonton Chamber Players. In past seasons in Ottawa, she has played in 13 Strings, the NAC Music for a Sunday Afternoon chamber music series, and the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival. Susan was on the faculty of the Vancouver Academy of Music and Alberta College in Edmonton and has taught privately for many years.
